"Edna" is a stationery steam engine which via a system of belts and drive shafts, used to power the cotton spinning machines at Bamford Mill by steam from five boilers and remained operational until 1965. "Edna" a 400HP tandem-compound horizontal steam engine was installed in 1907 by John Musgrave & Sons Ltd of The Globe Iron Works in Bolton. It was run periodically until 1990 when the owners moved out, and later Bamford Mill was developed into apartments.
The interior is faced with the original glazed brick and coloured tiles. On the side walls are running beams for a travelling crane supported on metal corbels. The original tools are in place and displayed on the walls in their original mounting plate.
It is the only remaining engine of its type in its original historic engine house structure. It has been carefully preserved by its current owner for many years.
